Thanks for sharing.
How much did the sunset fishing, whale shark snorkeling and sunset cruise cost?

Where did you book the resort?

All three excursions were included in the AI package.  Local island visit, snorkeling excursion and banana boat were also included (One each per stay) but we gave them a miss as we were too busy snorkeling at the resort.  I think it is highly unlikely whale shark is spotted given the number of boat cruising at the  same spot at the same time.  But watch out for flying fish.  There were many of them flying around.

Wincastle was our agent again.

Zoozy,

Thanks for your nice recommendation of Centara Grand.
I didn't know it offers "Ultimate AI package" which includes all excursions.  It is certainly on my list for future Maldives visit.
What other five Maldives resorts you had gone to?

Three Club Meds (the first visit in the 90s to the Club Med that was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami; then Club Med Kani in 2014; Club Med Finohul in 2016)

Ozen by Atmosphere (2017) ->  Certain excursions included; spa and underwater restaurant as well if stay was over four nights.  Spa treatment could be exchanged for "free dives".  Ozen is definitely paradise for the alcoholics.

Mercure Kooddoo (2018) -> This one was unimpressive and all excursions were chargeable.  And there was loud religious chanting (from the domestic airport) regularly every day.

I wrote reviews on them on Tripadvisor except the very first one.  All things considered, I think Ozen is the best so far

Below is an extract from Centara Grand Island's reply to me detailing the included spa/dive/excursions:

"Spa Credit can be exchange with Diving for adults only (18 years old and above) & also only for certified Divers.

Additional Information:

As we now included Diving in our Ultimate All-inclusive package where Guests can enjoy up to 3 dives per week as an alternative to Spa treatment on selected days.

Please refer to below Terms & Conditions which we request you to communicate with your valuable clients prior to arrival to the resort that would avoid last minute disappointment.

Terms & Conditions (Diving):

The option to exchange spa credit for a dive is applicable to adults only (18 years old and above) Up to 3 dives per person per week, limited to one dive a day The 3 dives include orientation dive and 2 regular dives. Each dive (including orientation) is limited to 45 minutes Each participant must primarily be a certified open water diver or higher and undergo orientation prior to the first scheduled Dive. Final dive should be completed 24 hours prior to departure from the resort. Dives are subject to weather conditions Stay 7 nights and get 3 dives included

Stay 5-6 nights and get 2 dives included

Stay 4 nights or less and get 1 dive included

EXPLORATION AND SIGHTSEEING

Excursions are also included. The resort offers a selection of highly popular half- and full-day excursions, such as, whale shark tour, sunset fishing, sunset cruises and the local island discovery tour.

All excursions are subject to weather conditions and must be reserved in advance via the Front Office.

With the Ultimate All-Inclusive plan, the below excursions are free of charge and each excursion can be booked once per guest per stay:

EXCURSION & WATERSPORTS TIMETABLE

RESORT EXCURSIONS

09.30 – 12.30 Local Island Discovery

17.00 – 19:00 Sunset Cruise

WATER SPORT ACTIVIES

08.30 – 12.30 Whale Shark Snorkeling Trip

16.00 – 17.00 Snorkeling Lesson – will note require any advance booking

14.00 – 16.00 Snorkeling Trips

17.30 – 19.30 Sunset Fishing Trip"

Apart from the low water flow, there was one thing I didn't like about Centara Grand Island: the tiny private swimming pool.  Its more like a giant bathtub.
Hope this helps.
Zoozy,

Thanks for your detailed info.
I like the idea that spa credits can be used for scuba diving.
